All about Alex

Here are a few pictures from Alex's final basketball game and party. He finished up the season a week ago and then jumped into baseball the next day. His basketball team noticeably improved from last season. I guess that's what being a year older does. They were faster and more aggressive, so it made the games fun to watch. They are much faster paced than his baseball games and a lot shorter.
In this picture, Alex is on the left shooting (#17 black). As I mentioned in a previous post, most Alex pictures have something goofy in them.
This weekend's excitement was the Regional Science Fair. It is quite an event with 20 school districts participating and over 2300 projects from first grade through twelfth grade. We delivered his project to the convention hall after school on Friday. That was a nasty drive. I was hoping to beat some traffic, but it didn't work out. It took 1 hour and 10 minutes to get downtown and park at the event center. Whew! Alex and I returned on Saturday for the judging and awards. We had Alex wear nice clothes and brush his hair. As we were pulling into the garage, he commented, "Most of the kids aren't dressed up. They just have their hair brushed." He decided it was OK that he was dressed nicely though. For the judging, only kids were allowed in the hall. Alex was a little nervous about this part since he was worried about what questions the judge would ask. Judging was supposed to last up to 2 1/2 hours, but Alex came out after about 30 minutes. The judge told him that his project was very good, then he said, "It's more than very good." After judging, we went out to lunch with one of his friends from school who also had a project entered. The big excitement was when they opened the partition for public viewing. At that point, ribbons had been placed on the projects. They gave out first through third place ribbons to all the projects, so the ribbons were really more like rankings. The kids went back to their projects as fast as they could go (without running, of course). Alex got a blue first place ribbon for his project! He is so thrilled and decided all the work was worth it. Yesterday, he told me his ribbon is his most prized possession.

Wooohoo, way to go Alex! It's all about the whole presentation so good idea Jewels to make him brush his hair and dress nicely too. I agree I would much rather watch basketball then baseball. I think baseball only needs to have 7 innings with a 4th inning stretch. Love, Aunt Dude
