Welcome to the infirmary

Sean and I feel like we've been running an infirmary for the last several days. Both Emma and Benjamin have been sick. Emma ran a fever on Sunday and then started throwing up. She continued with the yucky stomach through Tuesday afternoon when I took her into the doctor's office. After running a few tests, they said Emma was very dehydrated and on the verge of needing an IV for fluids. As another option, Emma got a prescription for Fenergan (anti-nausea med) and strict orders to drink, drink, drink. The medicine seemed to help her stomach settle down a little so she was able to keep down plenty of fluid Tuesday evening and yesterday. Now she is in the slow process of returning to eating. She has been out of school all week and tomorrow and Monday are school holidays. Quite a break, but it's a long road to get her body up and running again. Meanwhile, Benjamin has been running around with a fever for a few days. He had an Xray/dye test on Monday and they took a sample from him then. The culture didn't grow anything, so he doesn't have a UTI. Probably just another virus floating around the house. The results from his test on Monday looked good. Dr. Cortez is pleased with how Benjamin's repairs look and how the bladder responded during the test. The test also indicated no urinary reflux from the bladder back up to the kidneys. That's good news because reflux can create another whole set of issues. All in all, the kids appear to be on the road to recovery, hopefully just in time for the holiday weekend. Thank goodness this all appeared after Sean was done with classes. He stayed home Monday and Tuesday to help with them since having Benjamin follow you around all day whining can get a little exhausting.

Sean and Grandma Mindy attended Alex's piano recital on Sunday. He did a great job! It's awesome how far he's come in less than a year of playing. Sean said one of the students was absolutely amazing, almost like a professional. Afterwards, Sean started looking up some of the music the students played and has since fallen in love with one of the pieces (Giorni Dispari by Ludovico Einaudi http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WoA6whTq7oE). He said the recital was very enjoyable.

We're looking forward to the weekend. Alex has a meet (Emma won't be swimming due to her illness), we're attending a wedding, Alex and I are going to the Round Rock Express game and we're going to the lake on Monday. Now, if only it wasn't quite so hot!

I'm sorry you have had sickness at your house. I had phenergan when I was pregnant with Annie. It didn't help me much with my nausea, but I sure slept a lot while I was on it. It made me SLEEPY. I hope Emma and Benjamin are up and about soon. Have a fun weekend. I'm trying to picture hot weather--it's 48 outside right now. Crazy! I love the piano song you shared, too. Very pretty!

I know it drives the mama crazy when there are sick/crabby ones around. I'm a few days late in reading the update - I hope everyone is up and around by now.
