Emma the nine year old

Emma has had a great 4th grade year at school. She has made strides with her writing and reading which makes us very happy. She continues to excel in math and science as well. Her 4th grade teacher has been so good with Emma. She really seems to "get" Emma and has pushed her to become better and better. We're excited that Emma's teacher won District Teacher of the Year so we feel blessed to have such a wonderful influence on Emma.

This spring, Emma was on a U10 soccer team. These girls stepped up their play and won several games which was very refreshing. Her coach did a nice job moving the girls around the field to different positions so they could see what they liked. Emma seems to prefer defender and didn't let many balls get past her. While my parents were here, we went to high tea at the American Girl Store. During Christmas 2009, my mom let Emma choose a doll from the store in Chicago, but she wasn't with us because she didn't feel well at the time. We thought we would take advantage of being near to an American Girl store by going to tea. We had a wonderful time along with Elizabeth, Emma's doll. Afterward, Grandma bought a new outfit for Elizabeth and then she braided Elizabeth's hair. The doll looks like a whole new girl.
This spring, Emma took a cake decorating class after school. She learned about fondant and how to work with frosting. Emma enjoyed learning and we enjoyed her creations!

Another activity at school was the father daughter dance. Sean and Emma had a great time dancing the night away. The DJ did a wonderful job keeping everyone involved and showing the girls the steps to various dances. All of the food was cooked by several very dedicated moms. They're looking forward to the event next year.
