Less than a week to go...

Less than one week until Benjamin starts his new adventure. He has been home from school since Wednesday, 9/17. The doctors want him to avoid germ exposure as much as he can, so he has become more of a homebody. We have been getting him outside every day though.

It has been a challenge to keep him busy, but we're doing pretty well. He has been working on independent study work for the last week, including math, science and language arts. He is enjoying the science lesson which is about biomes, plants and animals. Since he LOVES to watch Wild Kratts (an animal show on PBS), he knows all about animal adaptations. He also had to draw a garden to go along with a story they read for class. We looked up various gardens and he decided he wanted to make a Chinese garden. Here's what he came up with:

He based the building on this picture that we found:
I love the bridge he drew also.

Last week, I bought some lemon bread at the store. Benjamin decided he wanted to make some at home. After looking through a million recipes online, we made lemon bread. Benjamin really enjoyed zesting the lemon. Even better was learning how to use a can opener. He asked if he could keep going, so he went crazy!

Other than that, we're in final preparations...making lists, sending emails, letting teachers know what's coming up, getting pre-registered at the hospital, and keeping up with Alex and Emma's schedules. Julie's parents and Sean's mom arrive on Saturday afternoon. Benjamin is very excited to see them.

Benjamin will check into hospital on Monday around noon. They'll put him on a clear liquid diet for the rest of the day. Julie's mom, Sean's mom and Sean will stay at a nearby hotel that night and then head to UCLA very early on Tuesday morning.

Getting close now!

Praying for you guys. I'm also going to put Sean and Benjamin's names in a few of our temples to receive special prayers. I sent you a package with some books to read while you're spending so much time in the hospital. Thank you for the updates. I am eager to follow your progress, and I'm glad for the email subscription. Sending love and prayers your way.

I love the Superman picture of Benjamin that big sister Emma took.

Oh, yeah I really like the background you picked for the blog too.
