Benjamin is in surgery...

Benjamin is such a trooper. Despite being woken up at 5:15 a.m. and then not being allowed to have any of his very favorite water, he barely made a fuss. He was not overly happy about not having water, but got over it pretty quickly. I made a sweep through the house last night to make sure there were no sippy cups laying around, so he wouldn't get too upset. We got to the hospital by 6:00 a.m. and they took him back to surgery at about 7:15 a.m. It is amazing how many people were in and out of the room while we were waiting. There was a check-in nurse, nurse anesthetist, operating room nurse, anesthesiologist, child life specialist and Dr. Cortez, the surgeon. We must have been here too many times because we recognized the anesthesiologist and I recognized a nurse going down the hall in the surgery unit. The child life specialist gave him a breathing mask to play with. He was quite fascinated. He liked sticking his fingers in the various holes and then held it up to his face and Daddy's face.

They are planning to give him an epidural for pain management. It may be in for 2-3 days depending on how he is doing. Hopefully, it will allow him to avoid the histamine reaction he has had to morphine in the post. After his surgery at 7 months, he was very itchy from the morphine. We figured it out since he wouldn't stop rubbing his eyes.

Benjamin is in good, caring hands. Thank you to everyone for your love and prayers. More later...

Keep up the good work Benjamin, I know it has been a long day for your little body.

I told Zack that Benjamin was in surgery when I picked Zack up from school at noon. He wanted to know if Benjamin would have lunch while he was in there. :)

We love you all very much and are sending up lots of prayers. XOXOXO

Love, Aunt Jennie
