So, on top of everything else, Benjamin is now cutting 2 new teeth. 2 of his incisors are coming in on the bottom. Add that to his terrible diaper rash from the antibiotics and it makes him pretty cranky from time to time. Actually, I think the diaper rash is worse than everything else he's been going through. He is not happy AT ALL during diaper changes. Hopefully, everything will settle down in that region soon.
Alex got some good news from his school science fair last night. His project was chosen to go to the Austin city-wide science fair. I was talking with one of the judges last night and he said Alex's project was one of his favorites. Pretty cool. 2 other projects chosen from 3rd grade included a solar car and making electricity with fruit. Congratulations, Alex!
Also, Emma took her first accelerated reader (AR) test on the computer yesterday. The AR program encourages kids to read books and gives them points for passing tests about the books. She was very excited to start the program and got all the questions right on her test. We're hoping this will spur her into more reading. Good job, Emma!
Grandma and Grandpa will be heading back to Austin later today and then back to Chicago tomorrow morning. They were having a steak dinner last night when they called. I think Grandma and Grandpa Powers were thrilled to have visitors. One funny story...Great Grandma Powers told Emma she would buy 2 boxes of Girl Scout cookies and she would mail a check to her. Yesterday morning, she called to see if we had received the check. We had not, so Great Grandma was mad because she said she couldn't eat the cookies until they were paid for. Fortunately, we got the check in the mail yesterday, so she was legal to eat cookies during their steak dinner.
OK, maybe this note wasn't so brief...

Sorry about the sore buns Benjamin, that stinks. Break out the Dr. Smith's diaper cream. I don't know if he can go without a diaper for long but that helps to just air it out.
Congratulations to Alex!!! Very cool project. And way to go Emma on the AR test. Jules, you and Sean are doing a great job keeping everyone on track despite a lengthy hospital stay.
Have fun with Mom and Dad on their last night in town. Lots of love to all.
Aunt Jennie
I'm glad for the update. Thanks for the phone call yesterday. I had a wonderful birthday and I appreciate you thinking of me. I love you guys so much. The diaper rash thing is really a sore deal, isn't it? Bummer. ha ha ha
Well, hopefully it will be better VERY VERY soon and he'll be back to his playful self in no time. He's still in our prayers. I hope mom & dad are getting some much-needed rest, too!
