Another bump in the road...

At this point, we're not sure if Benjamin will be having surgery on Monday. Yesterday when he woke up from nap, he was a little cranky. By bedtime, he was very cranky and then he threw up. He woke up this morning with a fever. After speaking with Dr. Cortez's partner who is on call this weekend, I took Benjamin to urgent care to have him checked over. Sean and I were both pretty convinced that he was getting a urinary tract infection. The doctor checked his ears, throat, etc and then took a urine sample (very easy this time since he has a catheter so that's a plus). They did a quick analysis and said it is pretty likely Benjamin does have a UTI, but they can't confirm until they get a 24 hour culture. The urgent care doctor spoke with Cortez's partner and they both think it is unlikely Benjamin will have surgery tomorrow, but it is Dr. Cortez's call since he has a much more complete picture of Benjamin's medical status. At this point, we're just trying to keep him comfortable with Tylenol. He seemed to get hotter throughout the day. He started at 100.9 then went to 101.4 and was 103.1 this evening. Amazingly, he perked up a little bit and smiled a few times tonight. He seemed to enjoy Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers during the Super Bowl half time. Daddy approves of that!

The original plan was to take him to the hospital at 10:30 a.m. for surgery at noon. We're still planning to take him in tomorrow morning so he can be evaluated one way or another. The ugly thing is that Benjamin is back on the antibiotic that was so hard on his hiney. Poor little guy. We'll update again some time tomorrow once we figure out what is going on with him.

Take care and send Benjamin lots of love!
