Back in the waiting room

Here we are in the waiting room again. They took Benjamin back at about 12:10. After consulting with Dr. Cortez, he decided he would like to take Benjamin back and begin the procedure with a scope. He will take a good look around with the scope to see if any of the areas are inflamed from his urinary tract infection. If the areas are not inflamed, he will proceed with the urethral repair. Otherwise, he will likely change out the catheter and possibly the stent. Then he would have Benjamin admitted to receive IV antibiotics for a few days and likely reschedule for Thursday. The nurse has not called out from OR at this point, so we're not really sure what the status is. During his previous procedure, the initial set-up and scoping took almost 2 hours, so we could still be waiting for a little while longer.

Benjamin had a really rough night until about midnight. His temperature went up to 103 and he threw up several times. Finally, around midnight, he managed to drift off to sleep and then slept until about 7 a.m. Amazingly, his temperature was 98.1 degrees this morning. He was in a reasonable mood until about 8:30. After that, he couldn't have any more water, so he got more and more put out. As Sean says, water is like a pacifier for him. He loves his water and it really helps keep him calm. While we were waiting for them to take him back, he watched Dora and then rode around in a toy car. The car helped keep him somewhat calm. In fact, they took him back to the operating section in the car. He had his little blanket with him and off he went. What an amazing little boy! We'll let you know when we know more. We will definitely be here for a few days.
