Guess who's tubeless?

Yeah! Benjamin is tube free as of yesterday afternoon. He had a post-op visit with Dr. Cortez last Friday. At that visit, the doctor removed one of Benjamin's catheters and he decided to cap the catheter that was draining into a bag attached to Benjamin's leg. Then the big test over the weekend would be whether the system would work and Benjamin would have wet diapers. I was on the phone with my sister when I changed his very first wet diaper with everything flowing through normal channels. We both started cheering. Quite the excitement since Benjamin has never used the normal channels, not even at birth.

Yesterday, we returned to Dr. Cortez for another follow-up visit including a sonogram to make sure excess fluid is not being retained in his urinary tract. Dr. Cortez thought everything looked pretty good, so he decided to pull the remaining catheter. Now the only thing remaining is a stent in Benjamin's right ureter. The stent needs to be removed under anesthesia so he will have a short procedure on Thursday, February 28th. Other than that, we will continue monitoring his system by sonogram periodically and he will also have lab draws to check his kidney function. Let's hope everything continues to go well. The doctor seemed very pleased with everything right now. I'm very curious to see how Benjamin's bladder functions over the next couple months. Right now, it's doing great.

Yeah for our little trooper! Sean and I are very happy. We love the little guy so much! Thanks to everyone for all the thoughts and prayers.
