We're going to the zoo, zoo, zoo...

Actually, we've already been...The kids and I took a fun trip to the San Antonio Zoo on Monday. Alex and Emma had President's Day off for teacher inservice, so we decided to take advantage of it. We got down there in record time due to relatively light traffic.

The highlight of our day was the new hippo exhibit. We were standing only a few feet from 2 enormous hippos. I never realized just how big those animals are. They are bigger than my minivan! The first time we visited the hippo pond, they had their behinds to the window. When we returned later, they were right next to the glass so we could see their faces. It was amazing.

Alex and Emma also were amazed watching the tiger pace along the edge of the ditch in its enclosure. They kept asking how it walked so close without falling in.

At the end of the day, we rode the train around the park. Benjamin LOVED it. When the train was approaching, Benjamin leaned over and pointed at it. Then he kept saying, "See it? Yeah! See it? Yeah!" while nodding his head. It was so cute. At one point, the train stopped briefly at another depot. Instantly, Benjamin started signing and saying, "More, more". He wanted that train to get moving!

I'll post a few pictures I took. Later, I'll post a few that our resident photographer, Emma, took.
Maybe, Benjamin should be on the inside of the cage since he is a little monkey at heart...
Hippo butts!

Alex wasn't overly thrilled about taking this picture.Notice the rabbit ears that Alex is making for the rhino. He is in a huge stage of doing silly stuff for pictures. We usually have to take 3 or 4 shots because he is sticking out his tongue or making rabbit ears on his sister!
