Sean and I feel like we truly are living in a house full of kids. We have graduated to the age of the recorder. Alex has been regaling us with beautiful renditions of Hot Cross Buns and other favorites such as Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star. When he mentioned that he might learn "My Country 'Tis of Thee", he and Emma decided to sing it for us in case we weren't sure what song he meant. Meanwhile, Benjamin joined in singing his own song. Just think, all of this was before they left for school at 7:40 a.m. What a nice way to start the day (it really was since there was no squabbling involved).
Benjamin had an appointment with his kidney doctor yesterday and he sees his urologist this morning. His labs looked pretty reasonable. His creatinine (measure of kidney function) went up from 0.6 pre-surgery to 1.0 post surgery. At his age, his creatinine should be below .5. The doctor hopes it will go back down as Benjamin continues to heal. We'll just have to keep an eye on it. The other change was that his parathyroid hormone increased pretty significantly. We're adjusting Benjamin's medications to treat it. He'll need to be rechecked in about a month for this level, so we'll see if the tweaks work. Everything else such as hemoglobin, calcium, sodium, etc. was right where it should be. It's quite a balancing act when kidneys aren't functioning properly.
Alex pitched at his baseball game on Wednesday. He did a great job and only allowed one (or maybe two since I can't quite remember) runs. His team is 2-0, so they're having a good start to the season. Now they'll have a break for awhile since spring break is next week.
Emma's big news is that she changed her first diaper ever. Last night, she was complaining that she didn't have anything to do. We suggested that she could change Benjamin's diaper, so she happily complied with a little instruction from Daddy. It's much easier these days since all the holes on his tummy are closed. She did a pretty good job for the first try although it was a little crooked. She was pretty pleased with herself.

What a great helper! I'm so glad everything is going relatively smoothly with Benjamin. How's his eating these days? Does he eat any more foods by mouth?
