I can't believe it is almost time for the kids to get out of school. It seems like they just started a month or two ago. Actually, they really have grown and learned this year. While I was at school this morning, I was observing the different age groups. It is amazing how much they grow each year. There is a noticeable difference in size between each grade. Between 2nd grade and 4th grade, it seems like the 4th graders are almost a head taller. On the learning side, Emma has become a much more proficient reader who is not afraid to tackle a chapter book. Yeah! Bring on the fairy books, dog books and horse books! Alex continues his reading ways and thinks he might run out of books to read. Not likely, but we will have to work hard to find books that are interesting and challenging for him.
Today was field day at school. Benjamin and I decided to head up there to watch the fun since he didn't have any appointments this morning. Benjamin even got to participate on the scooters, eat popcorn and snow cones and cheered on the tug of war. The gym teacher does a great job choosing a theme each year and coming up with games. Today, it was a space theme, so they played flying saucers (frisbees), moon walk (essentially an egg walk with a "moon" rock), black hole obstacle course, and meteor shower (trying to make baskets in a small bucket). Alex got to do the 3 legged race with his teacher. You could tell she wanted to win because she told Alex the strategy as soon as she got the bag. They did win and Alex had the biggest grin on his face.
Last weekend was the kids' piano recital. They did a great job. Alex and Emma each played a solo piece and a duet. I was wondering how Emma would do with her nerves, but she marched right up there and played her songs with no mistakes. Sean got the fun job of keeping Benjamin corralled during the performances. Fortunately, at the end, Benjamin fell asleep to the sound of a soothing classical piece. In fact, he stayed asleep until it was time to leave, so he missed out on cake and punch.

I don't think you have to worry about Alex running out of things to read...just tell that to Grandma Hested and she'll gladly help.
I'm glad they changed the scooters so you don't get your fingers pinched by the wheels anymore. Benjamin looks so cute on the scooter.
Maybe you found a new way to ease Benjamin into a nap, zzzz.
Love, Aunt Dude
AHHH, Where did Alex get those legs? He's shot up! Benjamin passed out on the floor...priceless.
