October fun!

Seasonal flu shots...Check
All of us finally have received our flu shots. We made use of 4 different vendors at 5 different times, but it's done. My dad still thinks it's odd that I got mine at the grocery store and Alex got his at Walgreens. I was just glad that they were available at such accessible places. Note to self for next year: Emma will be getting a flu shot rather than the FluMist. Her experience getting the mist was not good as she ended up with a bloody nose for an hour after swinging her head around wildly. Oh well, live and learn. Now, it's time to figure out H1N1 shots...

Costumes for Halloween...Almost Check
We have a super cute witch costume for Emma. She wore it to Girl Scouts last night and received lots of compliments, so she is excited. Benjamin was inspired by Alex being a skeleton last year. One of my favorite memories is Benjamin running around saying, "Assike be bones! Assike be bones!" This year, Benjamin has decided to be "small bones". He saw a small skeleton costume and could not be persuaded to choose anything else. As for Alex, we still have to make his costume, but we should be able to get that out of the way this weekend. He was inspired by my cousin's costume a few years ago, so he's going to be the floor of a movie theater.

Fun Halloween crafts...Check
The kids had a ball making little jack-o-lanterns last weekend and a haunted gingerbread house. One of my friends recommended this website (just click here) for making the jack-o-lanterns.
Super easy and very cute! I ended up using orange napkins rather than orange tissue paper, but I think they turned out great.Pumpkins for the porch...Check
We made our yearly foray to buy pumpkins. Since we went out much earlier this year, we had a much better selection. My rule has always been that the kids can get any pumpkin they want as long as they can carry it themselves. That worked pretty well when they were little so we didn't have to get the ginormous pumpkins. Now, Alex takes it as a challenge to buy the largest pumpkin he can possibly find. This year, he was mad at me because we did his flu shot first. He thought his sore arm might hamper his ability to carry a huge pumpkin. I don't think it was a problem.
Happy Halloween, everyone!

You are amazing. I don't have that much energy right now. Although, each child has a costume and we're scheduled to go to the pumpkin patch this Friday. As for cute halloween crafts...maybe next year. :)

What a fun month of Halloween activities!! You do so many interesting things at your house. What great traditions your kids will have to someday share with their families!

It still looks odd to me, searching for pumpkins with shorts and a tank top on...

Alex cracks me up with his pumpkin carrying and being worried about his arm being sore. The pumpkin craft turned out so cute, good job!!
