Benjamin has been home for about 3 weeks now and it's been almost 4 weeks since the surgery. He is doing amazingly well. Almost from day one at home, he seemed to bounce back to himself. He begrudgingly took a short rest in the afternoon for the first 3 days and then wanted nothing to do with that. He is running and climbing happily at the playground, in the yard and at school. His only holdback is that his abdominal binder (a big elastic band around his abdomen) gets in the way so he can't keep his pants up. It's not unusual to see him run by with one hand holding up his waistband as he tries to catch someone while playing tag. He has another doctor visit on Friday, April 22, when we anticipate he will be able to take off his binder. Right now, the doctor says he can take it off to sleep, but we just leave it on since he doesn't complain. It would probably cause more trouble to keep taking it off and putting it back on than it does to leave the binder on all the time.
Sean and I are so relieved to have this big surgery behind us. We have been thinking about this surgery for several years and now it's done. Benjamin should be all set for kindergarten in the fall. Thank you to everyone who has kept our family in your thoughts and prayers.
