For the love of music...

Alex's first piano lesson was a big hit. He came home and told us all about it which is unusual for him. Usually, it's like pulling teeth to get details. He already started practicing and did the "homework pages" in his music theory book. Emma, Benjamin and I stayed for about half of the lesson. His teacher seemed really pleased with him and said he is definitely ready for lessons. The good thing is that she already knows what he has learned in terms of reading music, etc since she teaches him at school. Let's hope the lessons will maintain his interest. Playing the piano can be a wonderful, life-long skill.

Sean said I was remiss on my last post when I said there was not much else to report. He reminded me that we had water dripping out of our 2nd story ceiling to create a fishbowl from one of our light fixtures. On Saturday, I heard a dripping sound at the top of our stairs. I looked up and the light fixture was dripping and completely full of water. I couldn't figure out why there would be water up there since I wouldn't expect plumbing in the 2nd story ceiling. Sean went up in the blazing hot attic to discover water dripping from a pipe coming out of the air conditioning unit. We called a service company and they "blew out the line" which cleared some debris that had plugged it. We're so thankful we discovered it fairly quickly and that it happened in the middle of a week-end day. We were home and able to take care of it quickly. What if it had happened while we were gone on vacation. We don't want to think about that...

No fair I always wanted to learn how to play the piano but we had to take organ lessons, ugh. I know same thing but practicing on a organ seemed so much dork-ier then on a piano. So, did Alex ask to take lessons or did you tell him he was going to take lessons? Do you have a piano? I can't remember!

Wow, I'm glad you noticed the dripping/leak early too. What a mess that would have been!

Oh HOLY COW! I'm SO GLAD you discovered the leak! Wow - that's kind of scary isn't it? It's good that it was uneventful enough that you forgot to mention it - it could have been completely tragic. Someone was watching over you.

Alex - yeah! That's so fun! Kenneth is still enjoying his piano lessons 3 months later...I'm hoping he'll last at least 3 years. I agree with you - it's such a great skill to have.
