Sean received his department teaching award last week. The entire family attended the reception. The kids were a little confused that they were the only kids there, but they did a great job and were very well behaved. The reception was well attended by several professors and staff members. They served carrot cake (Sean's favorite) and coffee cake.
This morning, we averted a minor catastrophe. Sean and I were upstairs getting cleaned up for the day. Benjamin was still in his high chair finishing up his morning feeding while Alex sat in the kitchen with him. When I came downstairs to check on everyone, Benjamin was sitting on the couch watching a show with Alex and Emma. I asked Alex how he detached Benjamin from his feeding tube since we haven't shown him how. He said he just pulled it out. Uh oh! I ran into the kitchen to find Benjamin's feeding tube including the button where the tube hooks into Benjamin's tummy hanging from the IV pole. Alex didn't realize that you are supposed to detach the button from the tube rather than just pulling out the whole thing. Whew! Glad we caught it quickly and it was very easy to put back in. The hole for a G-tube will start to close in a fairly short period of time (i.e. will completely close itself in 12 hours) and can require surgery if it does close. We were nowhere near that, but we have now showed Alex how to remove the tube.

Wonderful picture of Sean! Way to go, we are so proud of him. The kids were probably wondering why they were at a party and there weren't any toys or games. Zack was confused by that last year at Grandpa and Grandma's 60th party. Now every time we got to a party he says, "will there be toys there?"
Phew, glad everything turned out okay with the feeding tube.
The turtle viewing pictures are great. Benjamin is getting to be a big boy.
Way to go Sean - that's so great and so well earned.
Holy Cow! about the feeding tube! Wow - good thing you caught that. I can't believe Alex was willing to just yank something off his brother...I guess that's a boy for you, eh?
What are you doing for Christmas? Rumor has it the Laytons are coming to town... :0 Will you be around? We're dying to see you guys!!!
Way to go Sean! I'm sure this will be the first of many awards to come!
Phewee, is right about Alex removing Benjamin's feeding tube. I'm glad everything is okay.
I didn't know turtles came up to visitors to be fed like ducks do, that's cute. I love turtles and ducks!
