My mom and dad are sitting in ICU with Benjamin and me. Sean had to teach his first class of the semester this morning so he should be here shortly.
Dr. Cortez seemed very pleased with the surgery. He decided not to do the abdominoplasty so that will have to be done at a later date. He is concerned that he may have to do some additional work with Benjamin's bladder so he didn't want to do the abdominoplasty right now. He reattached Benjamin's ureters to his bladder and closed the 2 holes on his tummy. He also opted to close the third hole on his tummy so that we can start testing his bladder function. Right now he has several tubes and cords running around on his body including 2 catheters, a drain, a pulse oxy monitor, blood pressure cuff and various heart monitoring leads. He's not very excited about them and has pulled the pulse oxy off his thumb several times. Despite all these and the incision on his tummy, he has tried sleeping on his tummy a few times. Once his blanket came off and he looked like he was mooning everyone with his cute little hiney.
Hopefully, he will start feeling a lot better over the next few days. Right now, we're just trying to stay up with his pain meds to keep him comfortable. He probably will be moved out of ICU at some point today. We have to wait until Dr. Cortez sees him. He also is only on IV fluids and hasn't been fed through his tube yet. The doctor wants to hold out on that for a little while to ensure no other complications arise.
All in all, he seems to be doing great. We just can't wait to see him smiling and happy again! What a beautiful, sweet boy.

Thanks for the update. Glad Benjamin is able to rest and will hopefully get all the tubes and cords removed soon. I can only imagine how frustrating they are to a 2 year old boy. Take care of each other and know many people have all of you in their thoughts and prayers.
