I'm sure everyone is waiting patiently for an update on our favorite 2 year old boy. He has had a pretty good day after a very rough night. Sean stayed last night and said neither one of them got much sleep until about 4:30 in the morning. Also, they moved him to the intermediate care unit (step-down unit) last night. This unit has a slightly larger patient to nurse ratio (3:1), but still not as large as the ratio on the regular floor (4-5:1). Benjamin took the move in stride and just watched everything going on.
Today, he has slept most of the day, probably to make up for last night. His pain management seems to be working right now especially since he is sleeping on his tummy. Personally, that's the last position I would sleep in after that kind of surgery, but he must feel most comfortable that way. He did receive some Pedialyte today through his G-tube and also got to take some water by mouth (yeah). We're trying to make sure his GI system handles it before they move him up to formula feeds.
We're still not really sure when he will be going home. Dr. Cortez did not mention anything when he checked him today. The original plan was 3-5 days. At this point, I am guessing it will be at least 5 days since he is still on full pain meds and hasn't eaten anything. We'll just have to take it one day at a time.
Meanwhile, Emma came home with a load of cookies last night. I'm sure it brings back memories for Grandma Hested when she used to be the cookie mom and we had cookies all over the living room. The score of Alex's game last night was a lot to a little as Grandpa Hested said. Alex's team was severely outmatched, but still hustled. Too bad it wasn't like last week's game that was 8-7. That was fun to watch.
Anyways, we're all managing. Just tired out. We can't wait for the day to see him swing that bat again.
Love,
Julie

I hope Sean didn't have to teach again today... :) I'm so glad for the update...I have checked several times today. We think of you often. Does Benjamin sleep on his tummy at home? It does seem like a good sign - like he's obviously not in too much pain. Anyway, lots of love going your way across the miles.
